Class Rooms
The layout, design and decor of the classroom has a significant effect upon the quality of the educational experience. Attention to the acoustics and colour scheme may reduce distractions and aid concentration. The lighting and furniture likewise influence factors such as student attention span. Historically, relatively few pupil-centric design principles were used in the construction of classrooms. In 19th century Britain, one of the few common considerations was to try and orient new buildings so the class windows faced north as much as possible, while avoiding west or southern facing windows, as in Britain northern light causes less glare. Desks were often arranged in columns and rows, with a teacher’s desk at the front, where he or she would stand and lecture the class. Little color was used for fear of distracting the children. In the 1950s and 60s cheap and harsh fluorescent lights were sometimes used, which could cause eyestrain. Research has suggested that optimal use of daylight, acoustics, color selection and even the arrangement of the furniture in the classroom can affect pupils academic success. In the design of a classroom, desk arrangements are essential to the decor and design of the classroom followed by seating arrangements for the students. Usually classroom desks are arranged in rows or columns, but there are many more ways to arrange the desks, for example making a circle with the desks so that it’s more of a group discussion or having the desks in a “U” shape for group discussions and easy access for the teacher.
Library
A well stocked library is the backbone of any institution. The Central Library of the College comprises of a spacious, well furnished and illuminated hall with adequate seating capacity for the students. At present the library has an affluent collection of 40, 000 books as well as Journals (about 40 National journals and 20 International journals). More than 10 newspapers are subscribed to the library like Times of India, Economic times, Business Standard, The Hindu, Business Line, Employment News, Hindustan times etc. We also have a separate reading room for the students in postgraduate classes in order to emphasize upon the reading and inculcating the habit of reading journals and other periodicals.This helps the student to have an online access to search the books available through the use of internet or intranet. This helps you to reduce the burden of heavy prices of the books and also helps in equipping you with the books throughout the semester or year even if they are not available with the library at any point of time when you really need them.
College Labs
Botany Lab
Well spacious and well ventilated Botany lab provides specimens, microscopes, permanent slides, latest method of physiological experiment, Genetics, section cutting of plants, demonstration dissection etc . Botany lab is well equipped for undergraduate students to perform various botany practical which are necessary for the study of the structure, properties, and biochemical processes of all forms of plant life, as well as plant classification, plant diseases, and the interactions of plants with their physical environment. The lab activity also involves the field trips to study the flora related to Medicinal and economically important plants in the surrounding region. The field trips are really exciting experience for the students and they learn a lot about the subject matter. Above this the well qualified and experienced faculties are really an advantage for the students who at every step are there to help the student. The lab is well equipped with instruments like Microscope (Compound, Dissecting), Anemometer, Dry and wet bulbs thermometer, Rain Gauge etc. Botany practicals covered during the session are Section cutting, Taxonomic studies, physiological & ecological experiment, Study of community, Biochemical analysis etc.
Zoology Lab
Zoology Lab provides scientific study of the animal kingdom, along with its evolution, diversity and environment. Our Zoology lab is well equipped with all necessary facilities for higher studies. The equipments are based on the latest technology. Practical work involves building knowledge of both the structure of different kinds of animals and how they function, and the complex relationships that govern how animals relate to each other and their surroundings. Zoology also provides fundamental information on three areas of our society, the environment, food production and human health. The high tech lab highlights the major concerns of modern zoology in relation to environmental and medical biology, and introduces the young scientists to cell biological and other analytical techniques, fieldwork and computer-aided data handling procedures. Some important practicals covered during the session may be mentioned as Dissection of Animal,Permanent slide preparation ,embryological physiological & cytological experiments, Study of bones, pests, insects & plant, nematodes & edible fishes & parasites, counting of blood cells, study of ecosystem, immunology, biotechnology, animal bahaviour, toxicology.
Chemistry Lab
There is a lot of interesting chemistry to explore in the Chemistry labs. The laboratory is designed to support and illustrate chemical concepts studied in the lecture portion of the course, as well as to introduce important laboratory techniques and encourage analytical thinking. Along with concepts and chemistry covered in lecture, the laboratory portion of the course will present some additional chemistry, both theoretical and practical. The lab manual contains background information and procedures for the experiments you will perform as part of your Chemistry course. The pages immediately following contain helpful information about laboratory policies, your lab notebook, Safety Regulations, and use of laboratory equipment. The laboratory is equipped with most advanced instruments such as spectrophotometer, Polarimeter, Chromatographic column, electric balance, and chemical balance, Water deionizer, Conductometer, colorimeter, magnet stirrer and various others.
Multimedia Lab
Multimedia is a method of communication which combines audio, video, internet, television, newspaper, radio etc. Multimedia has permeated every part of the education of the students from kindergarten to post graduation. Nowadays all the students are called digital natives as they learn these things very easily rather than the adults who are called digital immigrants. The 21st century progresses further, it will be even more essential that the students understand multimedia and transform themselves from passive to active thinkers. As a teacher, she/he has the opportunity to engage the students through power point presentations, television, radio, internet, audio, video, mobiles apps etc., to help meet the needs of the students. So the teacher’s role in the classrooms and language labs has been dramatically changed in the last twenty years. Computer Lab
The primary goal of the computer labs is to provide assistance to students that will enhance their chances of succeeding in technology-based classroom assignments. The computer labs support the curriculum of the college and the assignments of the instructors. All the computer systems are connected by LAN & 24 hour’s internet connectivity is provided for the benefit of students as well as faculty members. Our computer labs are highly functional, with all the state-of-the-art features available on the tap. They are constructed to cater the various needs of the students, like academic purposes, digital learning and internet browsing. The knowledge and skills of our students can improve by multiple folds, and they can use these resources to complete their academic projects without any issues.
English Lab
Language primarily develops from listening and speaking. Listening and speaking skills when nurtured to the full have a positive and marked effect on students for whom English is a second language. Words Worth English Language Lab is a platform where comprehensive and interactive digital content catering to listening and speaking skills is put to use in a stimulating lab environment or audio visual room. In addition, it also focuses on vocabulary and grammar as well as finer nuances of language like intonation, stress patterns, pace of speech and so on. Keeping the importance of a teacher in mind, Words Worth English Language Lab sessions ensure teacher-learner interaction in the class. The human touch and expertise that a teacher brings into the classroom combine with the rich content of Words Worth Language Lab to provide an effective learning experience for the learner. Similarly, a language lab is a place where we can learn languages.The way we have tools, equipment, chemicals and specimens in our science labs, in English language Lab, we have number of tools which teach and guide us to learn and practice languages. Language lab is the software which enhances the skills of a student, teaches English and enhances ability to Listen, Speak, Read and Write. We haven’t taken any exclusive training to speak and understand our mother tongue. A child listens to his mother and understands and tries to repeat the words and mother corrects the words. Mother teaches words, vocabulary and child tries to speak exactly like the mother and mother corrects the child, if the pronunciation is incorrect. In the process, the child learns. Listening and Speaking are the skills which require massive practice. Everyone associated with the child helps with the process and speed it up. Whereas in India, English is a second language. It is a foreign language. We need to learn the language and since it is also not commonly used outside class rooms, the opportunity to listen, speak and practice are very limited. To improve skill in any language one must listen and speak in an order and follow the system of that language. Attaining Proficiency in any language requires constant listening, speaking and practice.
Commerce Lab
A dedicated Commerce lab for the benefit of staff and students has been initiated in new premises to develop global competency and keep them updated with recent practices in the business world. Commerce Lab provides practical exposure of the processes and procedures followed by organizations in conducting commercial practices. The lab provides practical orientation to students by linking the subject syllabi with practical training in the lab. The Commerce Laboratory is equipped with the latest teaching aids such as projector, video camera and Laptop. Charts, Models, Magazines prepared by students are displayed for the benefit of all. Again, an all out effort is being made to install the laboratory with the latest gadgets. The Lab is also used for interaction with the peers from other institutes. Students also participate in group discussions, interviews, presentations, etc. arranged here from time to time. The lab’s membership and facility come at no extra cost for the students and staff. With the commerce lab, the college aims to stress on the importance of practical application of knowledge gained through theory, among students and faculty. The trade and commerce is rapidly increased due to liberalization, globalization and privatization. This require more number of commerce graduates and also commerce professionals like Chartered Accountants(C.A), Company secretaries, Cost accountants, MBA graduates. Our commerce professionals have a good demand in the world as financial advisors, consultants and auditors. The commerce laboratory is a new concept, where in students practice their theoretical knowledge gained in classroom. In addition student carries on more and more experiments. Mock commerce and business activities are undertaken in laboratory. Besides creating an interest in students, the labs also help in developing entrepreneurial capabilities and personality development.
